Beginning months of the year 2017 made a great starting for the luxury online retailer Moda Operandi, when the brand opened its very first retail NYC store at the 64th Street. Having its home in a historic townhouse on a residential Upper East Side Madison landmark district, the store is not even how you would expect any other retail store to be. Their philosophy is to have a selected clientele and the clients are entertained by an appointment-only procedure. The focus clearly is on QUALITY and definitely not QUANTITY. Now isn’t that SO Manhattan?
For all those still wondering, Moda Operandi is an upscale fashion oriented retail online shopping label that allows its customers to preorder looks directly from designers, immediately after their runway show. Now, this store is an amalgamation of the brand being a ‘luxury label’ along with the same being a ‘retail store’. Lauren Santo Domingo, Moda Operandi’s Co-Founder and Creative Director, lead the interior design herself and wanted her clients to feel very much like home while still enjoying luxury shopping out there.
To achieve the same, the brand collaborated with none other than the bespoke luxury wallpaper house (and of course my favourite): de Gournay. Together, they used two iconic wallpapers from de Gournay’s collection: ‘Earlham’ which is a Chinoiserie design and ‘Pineapple’, which is silk damask design. Both the respective beauties have been hand painted onto walls, blinds and curtains. This certainly wasn’t the end to how the motifs could beautify the store. The design “Earlham’ along with another design called ‘Plum Blossom’ have also been hand painted onto silk gowns for the brand.
Initially, the gowns were provided to the brand’s niche clients while shopping at the same, like I earlier mentioned how their design philosophy was to make their clients ‘feel at home’, but later the team decided to retail the same as dressing robes for $1995. Available in two colours, the robes are available at both the Moda Operandi stores: London & NYC and you can shop them from anywhere around the world through their website.
Here’s how ‘Earlham’ has been displayed the jewellery section:

Have a look at the limited edition babies yourself: Here’s how the store looks overall: A very different and modern design approach in terms of lights, walls, the staircase and even the flowers and planters can very well seen and is certainly appealing to the eyes. This makes me want to go visit right away!! What about you? Have a look:
